While we're on the topic of blood donations...just over a year ago we wrote about our goal to help the Red Cross of Maine reach its $500,000 fundraising goal in order to purchase a new bloodmobile. Thanks to the thousands of compassionate Mainers along with dozens of friends, partners and employees of Backyard Farms, the Red Cross reached their goal and gave us a first look inside Maine's brand new, state-of-the-art bloodmobile!
Ain't she a BEAUT? Now that the staff has been trained in all of the wonderful new technology aboard this mobile donation room, it has officially hit the road to collect desperately needed blood throughout our massive home state. If you donated on the old bloodmobile, the first thing you'll notice when you step aboard the new bloodmobile (besides the awesome "new bloodmobile smell") is the generous amount of interior space.
As you can see, there's plenty of room in the main aisle and tall people no longer have to bend over to make their way to the donation beds. But perhaps the most impressive feature is the individually climate controlled screening rooms where donors answer all the important pre-donation questions and have their blood tested to ensure they're healthy enough to donate.
Each interview room even has its own window which is sure to make the pre-screening process a lot more enjoyable. And when it's time to roll up your sleeve, donors will be lead to one of six ergonomically excellent donation beds. With the simple pull of a handle, the bed can be repositioned so donors can choose which arm they wish do donate from regardless of which side of the bloodmobile they're on.
The $500,000 that the Red Cross of Maine raised includes three years of scheduled maintenance to ensure that this beautiful new bloodmobile stays in great shape as it collects over 6,000 units of blood each year. We're thrilled to hear that we inspired so many people to donate to this wonderful project but our friends at the Red Cross of Maine are quick to remind us that the need for cash donations is as constant as the need for blood. After all, the Red Cross of Maine provides 90% of the blood used to treat patients in hospitals and trauma centes throughout the state. CLICK HERE to make a donation as small as $10 that will (literally) go a long way to helping the Red Cross of Maine to help our friends and neighbors at their most critical times of need.
