About Us

At Backyard Farms we’re focused on being
really, really good tomato growers. It’s our
goal to provide the Northeast with the
freshest, best-tasting tomatoes possible—year-
round. That’s why we leave our tomatoes on
the vine as long as possible. And it’s why we
are so passionate about our produce.

At the same time, we’re focused on providing good agricultural jobs for people in the community. We wouldn’t have the tastiest tomatoes in the region without our people. We show our appreciation by giving back to our community and continuing to invest in our business so that we can be the best growers possible.

Our History: Refreshing Agriculture in New England

On a cold February day in 2004, we realized that every tomato in the grocery store was grown in Canada. Or Mexico. Or Holland. So they weren’t really ripe. They had just turned red while traveling. And we wondered, wouldn’t it be great to grow fresh greenhouse tomatoes right here at home? The seed had been planted. And through a lot of hard work and a bit of New England ingenuity, Backyard Farms was born.

Today, Backyard Farms delivers a better, fresher tomato to the Northeast all year long. Even during the long New England winter. We’ve introduced a new way of doing business to the tomato industry. One where freshness and quality of the tomatoes comes first. And that’s the way it should be.

Our View on Local Produce

We think people should know where their food comes from and who’s growing it. We built our business on this belief, and we never compromise it. We believe in and support local produce—particularly the desire of people to have a higher-quality, fresher, better-tasting tomato. Quality comes first. Quantity second. We don’t grow as cheaply as possible.
